Bird Gewurtztraminer 2008 Marlborough NZ
Bird Gewurtztraminer 2008.
Very aromatic with loads of tropical-fruit, lychee, and ginger-spice. Ripe and concentrated with amazing weight for a dry wine. Vinification: Machine harvested, destemed, and left on skin contact in the press for 6 hours to enhance flavour and structure. After pressing the juice is lightly treated with gelatine to remove any harsh flavours. The fermentation is long, cool, and slow to retain flavour and enhance mid palate weight. The wine is left in contact with its yeast sediment for a minimum of 3 months after fermentation to maintain freshness and further enhance structure and complexity. The Vintage: 2008 was a perfect vintage for Gewurztraminer. The soils are the perfect combination of free draining alluvial shingle subsoils with a generous topping of friable clay loam as the top soil. In planting the vineyard the viticulturalist was keen to exploit the natural assets and attributes of the site and therefore chose to grow a range of distinctly aromatic white wines and several clones of Pinot Noir. This has proven to be an inspired decision resulting in wines with astonishing purity of varietal fruit and vibrant structure.
